Trivia:
Famous People: Barbara Hepworth lived and worked in Trewyn studios, St Ives now the Hepworth Museum, from 1949 until her death in 1975, and created many of her most famous works there
Notable Event: A scene from the 1980 film 'Raise the Titanic' are shot in St Ives.
Sir Alec Guinnes makes his only appearance in the film, in this scene, which involves a walk in the harbour and the Sloop Inn.
I Thought the whole place was a breath of fresh air - all of British seaside towns pay strict attention - St Ives focuses on its strengths - lovely locals, not selling tat to tourists and wealth of local talents ie pottery, surfing, fab beaches, not wrecking the lovely town already there
THE TATE!
food! I went to a number of restaurants around the town and they were all very good! i would recomend blas x
Home is where the heart is and my heart is in St.Ives. I have had holidays in St.Ives since I was a baby and I always feel I am home when I return. Its one of the few or even the only place that never seems to change which makes it feel secure and comforting. Love it dearly.
St Ives in Cornwall is a most beautiful part of England, with its stunning harbour views and amazing beaches. It has everything you need for a great summer holiday. The main beach is Porthminster, it is huge and flat and in the summer it is heaving with tourists. The other big beach is Porthmeor, which is primarly a surfing beach. There’s also the small but lovely Porthgwidden beach and the busy harbour beach.
St Ives is famous for its numerous artists and art galleries, and artists can often be seen working both in the studios and out and about in the town. They claim the light is the best in the country for their work. St Ives is also home to the Tate Gallery near Porthmeor beach.
Food and accommodation are both of the most varied and outstanding quality in the whole country and the night life in St Ives is excellent. There are lots of pubs and trendy bars and a few places that stay open till the early morning. My personal favourite pub is the Sloop Inn on the Harbour front. If you ever do get bored of the town there are numerous days out nearby such as the Eden project.
