Town of Interest
Ledbury is a unique market town set in rural Herefordshire, on the southern slopes of the Malvern Hills. Famous for its half-timbered 'black and white' buildings, it is hard to imagine a place with more beautiful old medieval, Tudor, and Stuart half-timbering within such a short distance. The Market House on the High Street is impressive enough, but then there is the Feathers Inn, the Library Clock Tower and Butcher Row House. Then if you wander off the High Street towards the church you can see one of the best preserved medieval streets of anywhere in the UK.
The town is also rather well-known for its poetry connections, with links to some of England’s most notable writers including Elizabeth Barrett Browning who grew up in Ledbury and the poet laureate John Masefield. Every summer the town hosts the Ledbury Poetry festival which is now the biggest poetry event in the UK. Ledbury also hosts the Big Chill music festival every August in the grounds of the spectacular Eastnor Castle. (more)
